Gord Mackintosh no longer answering for tragic suffering of children in care
WINNIPEG – Liberal Leader Jon Gerrard says the NDP have shuffled Gord Mackintosh out of the Family Services ministry to protect him from having to answer for the growing number of children in the care of Child and Family Services – including those who have suffered and died. The NDP’s delayed release of Family Service’s last annual report – released less than two weeks before Christmas instead of the traditional September – revealed the number of children in care grew from 9,120 to 9,432: essentially, a city of children in care in Manitoba.
“Greg Selinger’s removal of Gord Mackintosh from the increasingly troubled and tragic portfolio of family services the year Manitobans will finally have the long-awaited – and delayed – Phoenix Sinclair Inquiry is unscrupulous,” says Gerrard. “This is the NDP’s strategic way of covering up the big problems and chaos of the past five years Mackintosh has been responsible for Child and Family Services. It is a way to make sure he does not have to answer for his mistakes.
